A stomach ache is a very common problem with varying degrees of discomfort and related symptoms. You can experience mild to sharp pain in the stomach or abdomen, stomach cramps, gas, nausea, diarrhea, bloating and vomiting. Some common causes of stomach aches are indigestion, gas, heartburn, constipation, a stomach infection, overeating and lactose intolerance. However, stomach pain can also be due to more serious issues like an ulcer, a hernia, gall stones, a urinary tract infection and appendicitis.
When you have a stomach ache, it can be really difficult to concentrate on anything. Irrespective of the reason behind the stomach ache, you want it to go away fast. Some natural and simple home remedies can give you quick relief. These home remedies are particularly effective for stomach aches due to indigestion, gas, bloating and similar conditions.
1. Chamomile Tea:
Chamomile tea is known to work as an anti-inflammatory along the digestive tract. If your stomach pain is caused by gastritis or indigestion, a cup of chamomile can offer relief. It does this by relaxing muscles along the stomach and the esophagus, easing the contractions that push food along, and lessens any cramps or spasms you are experiencing.
- Place one teaspoon of dried chamomile in one cup of boiled water.
- Cover and allow to steep for 15 minutes.
- Strain tea and add lemon or honey for taste.
- Drink up to three cups daily
2. Ginger:
A great Ayurvedic remedy is to grate about one teaspoon of fresh ginger and have it with one teaspoon of lime juice after your meals as per Dr. Vasant Lad’s advice. Drinking ginger tea is also an effective remedy for gas relief. Ginger acts as a natural carminative (agents that relieve flatulence).
3. Lime Juice with Baking Powder:
Another simple remedy suggested by Ayurveda expert Dr. Vasant Lad to reduce excess gas is to stir 1 teaspoon of lime juice and half teaspoon of baking soda with a cup of water. Drink this after your meals as it helps in forming carbon di oxide which facilitates the digestion process.
